What is Alchemy?
Alchemy is the potion-brewing skill in Hypixel Skyblock. You gain Alchemy XP every time you brew a potion, and higher levels make your potions last longer while giving you extra Intelligence.
At the moment, the only consistent way to gain Alchemy XP is to brew potions. Nether Wart used to give Alchemy XP, but it now contributes to the Farming skill instead.
Alchemy is one of the few skills you can reasonably take from level 0 to level 50 in a single day, especially if you prepare ingredients in advance and use an efficient auto-brewer, if one exists at the time of reading.
That speed comes with a cost. Unlike free skills such as Foraging or combat-based grinds, Alchemy almost always requires a pile of coins. The goal of this page is to make sure every one of those coins works as hard as possible.

How to read your results
After you press Calculate, the results section ranks ingredients by time and cost using live Bazaar pricing. Use Sort by Time when you want the fastest 0–50, and Sort by Price when you want the cheapest route.
- XP Required tells you how much XP is left from your current level to your target.
- Fastest Time assumes efficient brewing with minimal downtime.
- Cheapest Cost reflects the dynamic filling price model (large buys move the market).
- If you change Wisdom or toggle Derpy, recalc — it can reorder the “best option” completely.

Why is Alchemy important?
Every Alchemy level grants Intelligence. More Intelligence means more damage for mage builds and better performance with items that scale off mana.
Alchemy also extends the duration of potions, whether you brewed them or not. That buff applies to god potions, dungeon potions, and most of the consumables you use every day.
God potions are a great example. At low Alchemy levels, they last 12 hours. With Alchemy 50, the duration can reach up to 24 hours, effectively cutting your god potion costs in half over the long term.
Finally, Alchemy contributes to your overall skill average. If you care about weight, profile flexing or leaderboard positions, Alchemy is one of the cleanest skill-average boosts you can buy with coins instead of time.
How long will it take me to reach Alchemy 50?
Reaching Alchemy 50 requires a large amount of XP, but the time investment depends on three main factors:
- The ingredients you choose to brew with.
- Your Alchemy Wisdom and any XP boosts you have active.
- Whether you use a manual setup or a fully-built auto brewer.
With a basic manual setup and mid-range ingredients, you might spend anywhere from 2 to 10 hours actively brewing, maybe spread over multiple sessions.
Depending on the ingredient and Wisdom, that time can drop sharply. With the best ingredient and Wisdom, players can compress the entire 0–50 grind into a short window, limited mainly by how quickly they can feed ingredients into e.g. their autobrewer.
The Alchemy XP Calculator below is designed to show you both ends of that spectrum. You can plug in your current level, target level and wisdom, then compare options by total time, total cost and XP per coin.
When should I try to max out Alchemy?
The best time to max Alchemy is when you can stack as many discounts and buffs as possible.
A few ideal windows are:
- During a Derpy mayor election for the +50% skill XP bonus.
- Right after big price crashes on Sugar Cane, Fermented Spider Eyes or Blaze Rods.
- When you already have high skill levels and are looking to increase your Skill average
Planning around these windows can easily save you tens of millions of coins over the full Alchemy 50 journey.
Auto brewers in 2026
Auto brewers are contraptions built by people to achieve extremely fast Alchemy XP gains. The loop is basically: spend a long time building a contraption, then get Alchemy 50 in minutes.
- Spend a long time building a contraption
- Get Alchemy 50 in minutes
Very obviously, people would rather do something more fun (like building a brewer) over just repeating a repetitive task for an hour+. Very similar to something like spending two hours developing a script that would automatically do your 1 hour repetitive task.
It's not exactly the same with autobrewers, since they are really, really fast. You can get hundreds of millions of Alchemy XP daily (even though you don't need that much). So now, the ultimate question: Are there still any auto brew crafts that work in 2025/2026? I have no idea. For as far as I can tell, there is no such thing anymore.
What can the tool offer me?
The Alchemy XP Calculator checks all the brewing ingredients, the XP they give you, the time they take to brew and their current costs on the Bazaar. This means that if you, at any point in the future, want to suddenly reach Skill Average 50 and therefore want to max Alchemy, you can just check what the fastest ingredients are, the cheapest, and much more.
Also, an important feature is the Dynamic Filling system. This means that the tool actually accounts for fluctuations. This also means that buying 1000 enchanted blaze rod will cost exactly as much as the tool says, because it artificially filled the orders and calculated the price that way.
You can also save and share your craft plan. That makes it easy to pause the grind, come back later or send your route to friends or coop members.
Brewing checklist
Before you start spamming brews, run through this quick checklist.
- Enter your Alchemy Wisdom so XP per brew is calculated correctly.
- Toggle “It’s Derpy!” during the Derpy election for the +50% skill XP bonus.
- Use the Recipe Picker to search ingredients, then add promising options to your craft plan.
- Press Calculate and sort by Time, Price or Best Option to compare routes.
- Use Share to copy your current state and Reset when you want a clean slate.
Quick start
Four simple steps to brew fast without wasting coins. Keep this page open while you brew so you can recalc after each batch.
Search for ingredients in the Recipe Picker and select a recipe that matches your budget and time window.
Enter your current and target Alchemy levels, then add your total Alchemy Wisdom so the XP multipliers line up with your profile.
If Derpy is elected or other XP buffs are active, enable the toggle so the calculator adjusts XP per brew correctly.
Add ingredients to your plan, hit Calculate, then use sorting to find the route with the best balance of time, cost and XP per coin.
Example Alchemy routes
Here are a few example routes players often use. Prices change constantly, so always double-check with the calculator before committing.
Budget-friendly route
- Focus on lower-cost ingredients with high volume.
- Accept a slightly longer grind to save millions of coins.
- Great for profiles that still need money for other upgrades.
Balanced route
- Mix Sugar Cane OR Fermented Spider Eyes (whichever is cheaper) and occasional Blaze Rods.
- Keep coins spent and hours invested relatively even.
- Good for players who want Alchemy 50 without going broke.
Time-is-money route
- Prioritise the highest XP ingredients, even if they cost more.
- Ideal when you value your time higher than raw coins.
- Best paired with Derpy.
Common mistakes to avoid
Even experienced players burn coins on Alchemy. Here are a few pitfalls to watch out for.
- Buying ingredients without checking XP per coin first.
- Ignoring Derpy or other XP boosts and brewing at the most expensive time.
- Forgetting to factor in Alchemy Wisdom, which can massively change the total XP cost.
- Stopping mid-grind without recording your plan, then double-buying ingredients later.
Ingredient spotlight
These ingredients are frequently strong picks. Their exact ranking changes with the market, so always scroll down to the calculator and run a fresh comparison.
Enchanted Sugar Cane
Extremely popular for both coins and XP. It has a relatively high NPC sell price, so Bazaar prices tend to stay close to that floor.
- Very stable price and volume.
- Great if you hate dealing with thin, illiquid markets.
Enchanted Fermented Spider Eye
Offers the same XP as Enchanted Sugar Cane but often at a lower effective cost, especially when you’re willing to place longer orders.
- Lower NPC price, but can spike if supply is low.
- Best when you keep an eye on Bazaar margins.
Enchanted Blaze Rod
The “money is fake” option. If coins are not an issue, Blaze Rods can cram a lot of XP into a small number of brews.
- Highest XP per brew in most markets.
- Ideal for late-game players who value time over coins.
Costs and planning
The calculator gives you both the relative time and the total coin cost of each route. Use those numbers together instead of focusing on just one column.
- Sort by Time to see which ingredients finish the grind the fastest.
- Sort by Price to see which routes are cheapest in today’s market.
- Use Best Option when you want a balance between the two. If two routes are similar in time, the cheaper one will rank higher.
Planning even a rough route before you buy can easily save you millions, especially when you are pushing the last few high-cost levels.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Alchemy Wisdom affect XP?
Every point of Alchemy Wisdom adds 1% more XP per brew. Enter your total wisdom exactly as shown in-game so the calculator can apply the correct multiplier to each recipe.
When should I bulk brew?
The best time to bulk brew is during Derpy or whenever your preferred ingredients crash in price. Use the calculator to confirm that XP per coin is low before you commit to a huge purchase.
What if Bazaar prices change mid-run?
Our dynamic filling system accounts for crashing/changing prices, so it's best to buy at once.
Do I need an auto brewer to hit Alchemy 50?
Auto brewers make the grind faster and less painful, but they are not required. Even a simple manual setup works if you give yourself enough time and buy ingredients efficiently.
What other tools should I use with this calculator?
For most players, it pairs well with farming profit tools and money-making calculators. If you can increase your farming coins per hour first, you will feel the Alchemy bill a lot less.
